AIA Newark & Suburban Board of Trustees - Position Description

The basic requirements of AIA-Newark & Suburban Board of Trustees members are as follows:

  • Attend Board of Trustees meetings and conference calls as called for by the President or the Board.
  • Work on special events and meetings in various Ad Hoc or Standing Committees and Task Forces throughout the year, as necessary.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities of the Board.
  • Keep informed of current events concerning the architectural profession to make knowledgeable decisions that bring about effective long-term and short-term planning.
  • Provide continuity by offering to serve for more than one year.
  • Provide for a good public image for Architects before the community and governmental agencies.
  • Adhere to and promote the Bylaws, Policies, Mission, Strategic Goals, and Objects of the Chapter.

 

Additionally, Trustees are expected to:

  • Serve on at least one committee and volunteer for task forces as necessary throughout the year.
  • Encourage non-board members to participate on committees, task forces, and attend events.
  • Receive, read and be prepared to act on issues/reports at Board of Trustee meetings.
  • Adopt an annual budget. The budget is developed by the Budget and Finance Committee, proposed at the reorganization meeting, and voted on prior to the first Board of Trustees meeting of the following year.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in developing programs that will benefit the general membership and forward the mission of the Chapter and Institute.
  • Participate in leadership workshops immediately prior to and during their term of office.

 

Length of term: 

  • 3 calendar years, or until a successor has qualified.
  • A Trustee shall serve no more than 2 consecutive three-year terms.
