We will explore the history of the creation of property boundaries, to understand their maintenance and use in a digital age.

Lecture will touch upon the following issues or importance to architects:

• Historical context of NJ surveying
• East/West Proprietors Returns
• Elements of a deed
• Unfiled maps
• Major Subdivision maps
• Minor Subdivision maps
• Geographic Information Systems Parcel layers and their limitations


Speaker: J. Peter Borbas, PLS, PP


Peter Borbas is nationally regarded as an expert in his field. In 2003, Peter was voted Surveyor of the Year by the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors in recognition of his leadership efforts. He has been practicing over 40 years within the industry. Borbas Surveying and Mapping, LLC has focused on building a reputation for integrity, honesty, and accuracy supplying services to federal, state, and local government entities as well as small-business consultants, engineers, architects, international energy firms, attorneys, and mapping companies.
In addition to working directly with clients, Mr Borbas has served (and continues to serve) on several major boards and committees:
