This webinar presentation will introduce and explore storm surges that produce elevated sea levels which can cause coastal flooding adversely impacting the health, safety and welfare of the public and building projects. Participants will be introduced to the Metro Storm Surge Working Group who are focused on the protection of the greater Metropolitan NY/NJ Region against catastrophic flooding from ocean storm surges, climate change, and rising sea levels. The program will cover storm design standards in our region and the United States, in comparison with more stringent worldwide case studies. Urban infrastructure challenges and design solutions to storm flooding will be covered. Discuss how architects can design coastal buildings to be resilient and protect the health, safety and welfare of occupants, as well as how architects need to be strong advocates for climate change and coastal flooding solutions.
