SURE House at Liberty Science Center is the 2015 Solar Decathlon Winner.  As a follow-up to a General Meeting presentation in 2016 AIA-Newark & Suburban Members will be invited on a private tour with Members of the award-winning team.

 

Event Cost: $10 per person (Cost applies to all.  AIA Members are allowed one guest each, also at $10)
(Does NOT included Parking and/or Elective Entrance to Science Center)
CEU Credits: 1.0 AIA credit (pending)

Special Instructions:


• Admission to the Science Center is NOT required for this Special AIA-NS Design Team Member Lead tour

• Attendees interested in visiting the Science Center will need to purchase admission tickets. If anyone is interested in seeing a planetarium show, that is an additional charge on top of the admission cost, and should be reserved early in the day as these shows often sell out on weekends

• For those who would like to attend at a different time, LSC docents lead tours on the weekends for ticketed guests.

• No food or beverages (other than a bottle of water) may be brought into the House.

• Please wear comfortable shoes.


Tour Leaders:
John Nastasi (Role: Architect of Record + Steven's Lead Faculty)
John is both an architect and a design educator. At the onset of forming his own practice, John was awarded the prestigious Young Architects Award from the Architectural League of New York. John is an alumnus of Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and a recipient of Harvard’s Rice Prize for the Advancement of Architecture and Engineering. In 2004, John founded the internationally recognized Product-Architecture Lab at Stevens Institute of Technology; recipient of the Grand Prize at the 2015 US Dept. of Energy’s International Solar Decathlon for the design of The SU+RE House.


Alex Guimaraes (Role: Student Project Manager & Project Architect)
Alex is a recently licensed Architect in the State of New York and has received his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Master's Degree Engineering from Steven's Institute of Technology as part of the Product Architecture and Engineering Program. Alex served as the Student Project Manger and Project Architect for the SU+RE House project while pursuing his studies at Steven's Institute of Technology.
